First impressions
The radio is in very good condition, and complete, including the original wooden back and the knobs. The chassis is rust-free. The cabinet looks great. The speaker cloth has been replaced by a neutral cloth. The power cord is original but a bit worn here and there. A sticker has been applied to the inside of the cabinet with the details of the first owner. The interior is very dusty.
The capacitors in the first capacitor block (containing C1 and C2) are still fine; the two following capacitor blocks turned out to contain quite a few leaking capacitors. Two capacitors from the third (metal) capacitor block were once replaced by two large tar capacitors. A number of capacitors from that same can are no longer connected. The two coupling capacitors also turned out to have too great a leak. Both E452T tubes have lost most of their coating and two tubes (an E424 and the C443) are weak. One of the E424's has been replaced by an E428. The seals on the three trimmers of the medium wave coils have been broken. The trimmers were adjusted incorrectly. Restoration
The cabinet and interior were cleaned and are now dust-free, the celluloid wavelength band was cleaned inside and out. Weary spots in the fabric jacket of the power cord were repaired by wrapping them with black thread. Measured all resistances. No serious abnormalities anywhere. Capacitor blocks 2 and 3 were invisibly filled with a new content (C3 to C14).
Invisibly replaced both coupling capacitors C39 and C40.
Replaced an E424 and the C443 with good tubes.
Fixed a broken top connection of an E452T; both tubes were painted gray.
Cleaned and oiled the four wavelength switches.
Cleaned the tube bases.
Adjusted the three medium wave trimmers.
Measurements give correct voltages and currents.
