What was broadcast in 1924?

Listen to "Si Fatigué" sung by Maurice Chevallier, recorded in 1924, Paris

Knobs on top, left and right: coarse tuning; middle front: rheostat, middle back: switch that enables use with 3 or 4 valves. Knobs at the front: left and right: secondary and primary tuning. Middle below: wave length switch. Middle top: fine tuning of the regeneration circuit. Behind the tubes binding posts for antenna, earth, power (4 and 80 volt) and loudspeaker.
The coil in the right hand side of the cabinet is part of an absorption circuit, that can be tuned, using the big knob in the middle of the front of the radio. The antenna's energy is "sucked away". Feedback, using the little door on the right is not very precise; the additional circuit can be used as fine tuning of the feedback circuit. This coil has a "top" position. Turning it also means turning the direction of the current in the circuit. In a normal coil this is not the case, as turning it 180 degrees the connectors are turned together with winding direction of the coil. The direction of the current will not be changed. Turning this extra coil will not have a big effect, but it explains the word "haut" (this side up) written on the coil.
